Cryotherapy
Commonly used to treat warts, verrucca, actinic keratosis, seborrhoeic warts and skin tags.
The wart is destroyed using liquid nitrogen to freeze it to a temperature well below zero. Some stinging may be felt during treatment, and may continue through thawing, but settles within a few minutes. If you get pain later on you can take 1 or 2 paracetamol tablets.
Redness and some swelling can be expected after treatment. In a day or two a water (or sometimes blood) blister may form, especially where the skin is thin and sensitive. Small blisters should be covered with an adhesive dressing to minimise possible infection and protect the skin. If you get a large blister simply let out the fluid with a sterile, pointed instrument; repeat twice daily.
The wart or part of it, may peel or drop off in a week or two and a further scaly crust may form on the wound. Remember that you may require further treatment in 3 or 4 weeks.
