Advice prior to IPL and Laser Pigmentation treatments

1. Do not expose the area intended for treatment to the sun for four weeks prior to your treatment.

Pigmentation Marks

Hyperpigmentation can cause brown discolourations on skin. This is due to overproduction of a pigment called melanin.

There are mainly four types of hyperpigmentation:

  1. Post inflammatory hyper pigmentation (PIH) is caused by any condition which can damage the skin e.g eczema, acne, burns etc
  2. Melasma causes the development of dark spots on the cheeks, forehead and upper lip.
  3. Sun spots – dark patches of different sizes seen in older individuals are due to sun damage.
  4. Freckles -pigmentation seen in young people with fair skin which is prone to sun burn.
  5. Irrespective of the cause, Dr Fay is an expert at treating pigmentation problems.
