Spider veins are most common on the face and chest. They are called spider veins because they have a central red swelling with feeding capillary veins. Spider veins may be found in both adults and children.
Spider veins are more prevalent in females possibly due to hormones estrogen particularly in pregnancy. Constrictive clothing, such as tight hosiery and girdles can also cause spider veins. Spider veins on the face can result from too much sun exposure, excessive coughing or sneezing.
