Venous Lake

What is a Venous Lake?

A venous lake is a soft dark blue to purple spot which can measure up to 1 cm in size which is most commonly found on lip borders. This is thought to be due to sun exposure resulting in a dilated blood vessel.

The cause is unknown. It most often affects women especially in women with darker complexions who live in areas of intense ultraviolet radiation exposure.

How is a Venous lake treated?
Laser is a very effective treatment modality. Usually one to two treatments are required.
